French Quarter Jazz Festival April 17 – 19

Steve and I made it down to the New Orleans French Quarter Jazz Festival that took place on the weekend of April 17.  It’s impossible for me to name all of the bands we saw! The memorable performances include Billy Luso & the Restless Natives, Gal Holiday & The Honky Tonk Revue, Original Royal Players, Casa Samba Extravaganza, Lost Bayou Rambers, Donna Angelle & The Zydeco Posse, and Clive Wilson’s New Orleans Serenaders. After hours on Friday, we caught R. Scully & the Rough 7 at Cafe Negril and Ingrid Lucia at d.b.a. — both on Frenchman Street. It was a great live music weekend!

The French Quarter Festival happens every April about a week or two prior to the start of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. With 17 stages in the French Quarter and street performances all over Bourbon and Royal, you will never run out of live music and entertainment. If you get the chance to go, don’t miss this amazing festival. You’ll always want to be there if you try it once!

Variety Playhouse – EG Kight and Sapphire, The Uppity Blues Women

EG Kight and the Uppity Blues Women (Gaye Adegbalola, Ann Rabson, and Andra Faye) played at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta last night. EG opened up with an acoustic set that set the mood for the rest of the evening. EG is an awesome guitarist — technical with lots of style — and a prolific songwriter. Her friends, the Blues Women, inlcluded several of her songs on their latest CD.

The Uppity Blues Women…fantastic! These three former school teachers sing of life’s ups and downs in an straight out style that’s humorous and sometimes down-right bawdy! I love it! This is the farewell tour for Sapphire, The Uppity Blues Women . They are not retiring, just doing something different. I hate to see them go, but I’m looking fowared to seeing them individually.
